14th June 1993 - Rainforest Mahogany Protest

As part of a ‘Mahogany Action Week’ Manchester EF! activists re-visit a Texas Homecare DIY store. Texas Homecare has ignored EF! criticism of the destruction of eco-systems and communities so activists use a stencil to paint DEAD RAINFOREST on mahogany products and attach a leaflet with information on illegal logging in tropical rainforests. Other actions include relocating timber within the store, a trolley dash and talking to customers. According to the report in Action Update, the police send six vans and three cars – arresting two EF!ers, although all charges are later dropped.

In March 1994 – after a nationwide direct action campaign – Action Update N0.9 reports that Texas has stopped selling mahogany.
