17th September 1993 - Partnerships for Change disrupted
Earth First! activists, including people from cities such as Leeds and Sheffield, disrupt Partnerships for Change, the post-Rio Earth Summit conference in Manchester in protest against the Conservative government’s track record on environmental issues. A women’s action blocks the tram that Environment Secretary and previous Conservative Party Chair John Gummer is taking to the conference centre, along with others such as Shell, Mercedes and NatWest bank. There is an overnight occupation of the international office of NatWest – but no arrests.
