August 1992 - First UK use of a tripod at Twyford Down
The first UK use of a tripod takes place at Twyford Down. Tripods are three-legged structures where the protesters take up position at the apex – they are used to block access to sites as the protestor can only be safely removed with a cherry-picker. The tripod action takes place on the Monday following the Torpedo Town Free Festival, which has been held near the work site for this reason.
